The zoo’s operators, Jan Żabiński and his wife Antonina, faced a variety of hardships during the early years of the war. A few months ago I came across a great blog post on Messy Nessy Chic by Inge Oosterhoff about a zoo in Warsaw that gave shelter to Jews during World War II.
